Egypt’s diaspora policy in the post-June 2013 era as a transnational mechanism of regime legitimation

چکیده

This article seeks to explore the question of why and how autocrats update their diaspora policy. Building on scholarship that deals with states’ motivations engage ‘their’ diasporas, alongside has focused authoritarian regimes’ durability, demonstrates a regime’s legitimation process takes place in transnational sphere illuminates consolidation strategies maintain constant interaction are fed by it. Presenting an extended case study Egypt’s policy under ‘Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi, this updated policies discourse, which include positive negative engagement, part regime designed mobilize support for post-June 2013 its narrative, both domestically abroad, constitute consolidating power.
